Professor Emeritus Simon Davies currently holds a Chair in Fish Nutrition and Aquaculture at the Department of Animal Health, Behaviour and Welfare at ÎåÒ»³Ô¹Ï×îйÙÍø in England. He formerly headed the Aquaculture Nutrition group within the School of Biosciences for 29 years at Plymouth University and subsequently for 6 years at ÎåÒ»³Ô¹Ï×îйÙÍø. He is an acknowledged international expert in the nutrition of cultured or fish species having served academia and specialising in fish nutrition for over 36 years. Professor Davies is the Editor-in-Chief of International AquaFeed magazine with a wide global circulation and on the editorial board of numerous leading scientific journals and senior reviewer. Professor Davies gained his Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry at Cardiff University in 1978 and subsequently obtained a Master's Degree in Animal Nutrition at Newcastle in 1979 followed by a Doctorate at the prestigious Institute of Aquaculture in Stirling, Scotland in 1984 funded by the Animal Health Trust. He was a Research Fellow at the University of Idaho from 1984-86 funded by The Bank of America. He has been director of Studies for 36 PhD students and over 100 Masters’ student projects. Also external examiner for 40 PhD students. He led the acclaimed Masters programme in Sustainable Aquaculture Systems at Plymouth University and Masters programe in Aquaculture at HAU. He is the author of 200 papers, book chapters and reports to date. He has lectured globally at major scientific symposia and international meetings in many parts of the world. His research is principally directed towards improving the production efficiency, health and welfare of farm raised fish and is internationally credited for providing new and better understanding of the nutritional requirements of fish and formulating effective feeds for their growth and development from the hatchery to the table. He promotes the use of sustainable resources and technology in this field. His fundamental work on defining fish nutritional requirements is being widely employed in industry for implementing feeding specifications, optimum management and correct diet formulations for different fish species and shrimp.
Professor Davies is a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), a Fellow of the Institution of Aquaculture Singapore (FIAS) and Life member of the World Aquaculture Society. He holds the Freedom of the City of London
